U.S. Mills has been in business for almost a hundred years! Its long and noteworthy history lays claim to many "firsts" in the natural foods industry.
| 1898 | The Pillsbury Company introduces Farina. |
| 1908 | U.S. Mills is founded and Uncle Sam Cereal is introduced. |
| 1926 | U.S. Mills introduces Skinner's Raisin Bran - America's 1st raisin bran. |
| 1966 | Erewhon is founded by two macrobiotic educators, and is operated out of its initial storefront location on Boston's Newbury Street. |
| 1966 | Erewhon founders establish the first Charter of Quality Standards for Natural Products. |
| 1970 | Erewhon pioneers begin contracting with farmers to produce organically grown crops. |
| 1978 | New Morning is founded as a distributor of organic produce. |
| 1986 | New Morning becomes a packaged natural food business. New Morning is the 1st company to introduce natural versions of children's cereals. |
| 1986 | Erewhon acquires U.S. Mills. U.S. Mills is the new company name, and Erewhon is retained as a brand name. |
| 2000 | U.S. Mills acquires New Morning. |
| 2001 | U.S. Mills acquires the Farina brand. |
